THIS IS A REPLICA OF THE STATUE OF PETER PAN IN KENSINGTON GARDENS, LONDON. IT WAS UNVEILED IN AUGUST 1925 IN MEMORY OF SIR EDGAR BOWRINGS GRANDCHILD, BETTY MUNN, WHO DROWNED, ALONG WITH HER FATHER, AT THE SINKING OF THE FLORIZEL. IT HAS THE INSCRIPTION,
"IN MEMORY OF A LITTLE GIRL WHO LOVED THE PARK"

PORT KIRWAN

PORT KIRWAN
THIS IS A SMALL FISHING COMMUNITY ON THE SOUTHERN SHORE OF THE AVALON PENINSULA IN NEWFOUNDLAND, CANADA. IT WAS INCORPORATED IN 1965 AS PORT KIRWAN, NAMED AFTER REVEREND MOTHER MARY BERNARD KIRWAN, WHO FOUNDED THE PRESENTATION SISTERS OF NEWFOUNDLAND IN 1853. PRIOR TO THIS, IT WAS ORIGINALLY KNOWN AS ADMIRAL'S COVE, AFTER THE ENGLISH FISHING ADMIRALS WHO USED TO DOCK IN THE HARBOUR.

BUILT IN 1897-98 IN MEMORY AND TO COMMEMORATE THE DISCOVERY OF THE CONTINENT OF NORTH AMERICA, 400 HUNDRED YEARS EARLIER, BY JOHN CABOT. JOHN CABOT SET SAIL FROM BRISTOL IN THE MATTHEW AND LANDED IN BONAVISTA, NEWFOUNDLAND, ON 24th JUNE 1497.

IN 1901, CLOSE TO THE TOWER, GUGLIELMO MARCONI RECEIVED THE FIRST TRANS-ATLANTIC WIRELESS MESSAGE SENT FROM
POLDHU, CORNWALL, ENGLAND.

REGENT STREET, LONDON, ENGLAND.
AS THE STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS ARE CURRENTLY TAKING PLACE IN CANADA, I THOUGHT THIS MAY BE OF INTEREST TO THE MILLIONS OF ICE HOCKEY FANS.

IN 1655, THE FRENCH CONTROLLED MOST OF ATLANTIC CANADA, AND MORE THAN HALF OF NEWFOUNDLAND. THE FRENCH MADE PLACENTIA THE CAPITAL OF NEWFOUNDLAND. THE TREATY OF UTRECHT IN 1713, FORCED THE FRENCH TO ABANDON PLACENTIA BAY SETTLEMENTS AND PLACENTIA BECAME A BRITISH POSSESSION.

TOMB OF A KING

THE TOMB OF KING EDWARD II AT GLOUCESTER CATHEDRAL. BORN AT CAERNARFON CASTLE IN 1284, DIED AT BERKELEY CASTLE 1327, HE WAS THE FIRST ENGLISH PRINCE TO HOLD THE TITLE, PRINCE OF WALES. THE TOMB WAS COMMISSIONED BY EDWARD III IN THE 1330s AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY VISITED BY THOUSANDS OF PILGRIMS OVER THE YEARS, INCLUDING KING RICHARD II IN 1378.
