HAPPY ST DAVID'S DAY FOR 1st MARCH

ST DAVID, (DEWI SANT) PATRON SAINT OF WALES, DEPICTED IN A STAINED GLASS WINDOW.

ST DAVID'S CATHEDRAL

ST DAVID'S SHRINE IS IN THIS BEAUTIFUL CATHEDRAL. IN MEDIAEVAL TIMES, ST DAVID'S SHRINE WAS A FAVOURITE PLACE OF PILGRIMAGE AND TWO PILGRIMAGES TO THE SITE WAS CONSIDERED EQUAL TO ONE PILGRIMAGE TO ROME.


THE OLD SHRINE

THE SITE OF THE OLD SHRINE OF ST DAVID, WHICH WAS DAMAGED AND EVENTUALLY DESTROYED DURING THE REFORMATION AND COMMONWEALTH.

NEW SHRINE

BONES, BELIEVED TO BE THOSE OF ST DAVID, WERE DISCOVERED IN 1866. IN 1920, THE BONES WERE PLACED INTO THIS OAK CASKET WHICH WAS THEN ENCLOSED BEHIND THE IRON GRILLE.
